Regional Focus Groups
During February and March 2011, the State Board and the Office of Statewide Health Planning Development (OSHPD) hosted a series of eleven regional focus groups throughout California. The focus groups were designed to better understand healthcare delivery systems, workforce development needs, and how California will be affected by the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) both statewide and regionally.
Each meeting brought together regional leaders and stakeholders in order to provide the opportunity to consider how the ACA will affect their health delivery systems; to discuss new models of care that would be beneficial to the region, the region’s health workforce needs, the availability of education and training capacity for health workers; and to explore partnerships and priorities that are critical for ensuring access to quality healthcare for the region’s healthcare service population.
Regional meetings were held in: El Centro, Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Oakland, Ontario, Orange, Oxnard, Redding, Sacramento, and Ukiah.
The State Board and OSHPD contracted with California State University, Sacramento, College of Continuing Education, Applied Research Services to facilitate the focus groups and evaluate the outcomes of those regional discussions.
